SolisCloud sign-in or API key: which should you use?

Choose between SolisCloud sign-in and API-key setup for a supported Solis home, with clear limits around plant access, monitoring and control.

Tariff rates, eligibility rules and device integrations change over time. Unless a section says otherwise, numeric examples in this article are illustrative worked examples rather than a quoted supplier promise.
Decision path from a UK Solis home through SolisCloud sign-in or API-key setup to verified plant selection and telemetry

Solis can be connected to 1app.energy in two ways:

  1. SolisCloud sign-in
  2. SolisCloud API-key setup

For most new supported Solis homes, start with SolisCloud sign-in. Use API-key setup if 1app.energy directs you there, if you already have API credentials, or if another service is already linked to your Solis setup.

The quick decision

Another service already uses the Solis connectionAPI-key setup if 1app.energy directs you there

Whichever route you use, 1app.energy still has to verify the correct plant and receive usable data before treating the device as connected.

For the wider setup sequence, see the Solis, zappi and Octopus setup checklist.

Option 1: SolisCloud sign-in

Choose Solis in 1app.energy, continue to SolisCloud, sign in there, then approve the access request.

Your SolisCloud password is entered with SolisCloud. Do not paste it into a 1app.energy API-key field.

SolisCloud sign-in is usually easiest because:

  • there is no Key ID to copy;
  • there is no Key Secret to copy;
  • reconnecting is clearer if access expires;
  • 1app.energy can guide plant selection after sign-in.

If the SolisCloud account contains more than one plant or inverter, choose the one for this home. Check the plant name, property and inverter serial number before confirming.

Option 2: SolisCloud API-key setup

API-key setup uses a Key ID and Key Secret created in SolisCloud API Management.

Use this route when:

  • 1app.energy asks for API-key setup;
  • you already have working SolisCloud API credentials;
  • another battery or optimisation service already uses the sign-in path;
  • the supported setup needs separate read access through API Management.

The steps are:

  1. Request API access from Solis if needed.
  2. Activate API Management in SolisCloud.
  3. Copy the Key ID and Key Secret.
  4. Paste both values into 1app.energy.
  5. Select the correct plant.

The screenshot guide is here: how to get your SolisCloud API key.

Treat the Key Secret like a password. Do not include it in public screenshots or ordinary support messages.

If another service already controls your battery

Do not disconnect a working service just to try another route.

Follow the route shown by 1app.energy. If the connection path is unclear, contact support@1app.energy and say which service is already connected, which Solis inverter you have, and whether you own the SolisCloud plant.

Do not send passwords or API secrets.

What a successful connection proves

A successful connection proves only the stage it has reached:

  • SolisCloud accepted the sign-in or API credentials.
  • 1app.energy found the plant or inverter.
  • The selected plant belongs to the intended home.
  • Fresh telemetry is available.
  • Any control shown is supported, verified and customer-enabled.

Those are separate checks. A valid login or API key does not automatically prove fresh data, battery control or a physical result.

For control choices after setup, read which 1app Smart Control mode should you use.

Common questions

Which route should I try first?

Use SolisCloud sign-in for a normal new supported setup. Use API-key setup when 1app.energy asks for it or when you already have the Key ID and Secret.

What if the wrong plant appears?

Do not continue. Match the plant name, property and inverter serial number, then choose the correct one.

Why is my Solis device pending?

Connection and telemetry are separate. 1app.energy may still be waiting for the correct plant selection or fresh Solis data.

Does API-key setup enable battery control?

Not by itself. It gives supported data access. Battery control depends on the inverter, verified capability, provider permissions and customer-enabled settings.
